Sweaters, Scarves & Soup

It's cold. It's happening. I'm not happy about it.

All I can think about today is warmth, because I lack it. I've had soup for lunch two out of two days this week (both soup servings have been delicious, btw). I think I'm making corn chowder for dinner tomorrow night. Soup is cozy. Rather than dwelling on how I'm cold, and therefore require layers upon layers to create the sensation of warmth, imagining coziness is better, no? So here it is, an homage to the cozy warmth of sweaters, scarves, and soup. How do you keep warm?

Here's a post from say YES! to hoboken, with links to recipes for 6 fall soup recipes that will warm you up from head to belly to toe. Nothing says cozy like a hearty bowl of soup, if you ask me! If I'm feeling successful, I'll post pics and a recipe for my corn chowder later this week. It's LITERALLY the best corn chowder on the planet, but this will be my first time attempting it myself...

Summer Consumption Conundrum

While in the winter there is not a meal to be had that can both satiate my appetite and actually make my brain believe it's truly full, in the summer, a meal can start and stop with a few delectable bites of delicious, juicy watermelon...

Forms of Torture

The good news is I don't need a full cast for my stupidly broken wrist (yay!)... the annoying news is that I still have five weeks of healing/typos-resulting-from-being-in-a-movement-restricting-brace. Whatever, I'll manage! At least I figured out how to wash my hair one-handed (left-handed, mind you!) and straighten it adequately!

Whilst healing, my fitness options are fairly limited to walking, crunching, and squatting (the latter two in my living room exclusively). So I've put a hold on most desserts until after I've been released to my own devices in July. If I can't do my normal active-activity, I could easily pack on 15-20 in the six-week total - no problem! HA! Obviously the answer is to torture myself further by collecting lots of drool-inducing dessert-y recipes. Seriously, how great would any/all of these be with a cool beverage or cup o' joe on the balcony -- morning or evening?!

Salad Yum

I just had the most delicious salad for lunch. Really, I just had a great lunch experience... met up with one of the coolest ladies in my life, KB, and talked books, gossip, life, soul-searching. All good things. I always feel so refreshed after seeing her. Need to do it more. Anyway, we were both wooed by the same salad. You'll have to forgive the blurry iPhone image - I was hasty in my photography:

Very simple, and very surely will be recreated for dinner later this week, and likely many a potluck situation. Arugula, sliced red onion, Mandarin orange segments, dried cherries, Israeli cous cous. It actually was intended to be served with grilled marinated chicken, but both K and I opted to go veg for lunch. Tossed lightly in a citrus vinaigrette. Truly delicious. And filling. I feel there is no hope for dinner tonight... it won't hold up. I promise I'll try to remember to take a better framed/better staged/better photographed shot when I attempt a recreation.

Yum.
